Tip 1: Be realistic with your resolutions.
Confession: A mistake I have made for several years! There were a few years where I would add so many things to my list after brainstorming how I want to see my self in a nutshell. I realised some of these goals weren't realistic compared to reality. On some occasions, I would totally dismiss what was on my list but continue to write it the following year saying 'this year will be the year'. Let's be honest, if you've not started it within weeks of making the resolution - you won't stick to it. I started sticking myself miniature monthly goals like Reach 1k on Instagram or Plan a month worth of posts for socials. I personally found these were more manageable as I could adjust from the following month & see where I wasn't succeeding. I managed to reach 1K at the end of November (after setting it at the beginning of that month) so I know my plan is now fail proof.
Tip 2: Reflection
It is hard to loose sight at the reasons & aims you can vision in your mind. At the beginning of each month, I write a small bio & list of everything I want to achieve over the month plus a reminder of where I see myself being. It doesn't necessarily matter if I don't get to that goal as it just means something hasn't worked for me. This would mean going back through each post or assessing a point to narrow down where I went wrong. As this can be quite daunting & self-shaming, it's best to remind yourself what you did right. So, create a way to have your praises in front of you so the bad things don't catch you on a bad day.
Tip 3: Stick to it & keep trying.
I can't stress this enough. It's really hard when you're not hitting targets, goals or feeling like your achieving something. I have changed my aesthetic so many times because I was too busy worrying about figures. Well, let me break it to you. All that doesn't matter. You'll develop paranoia, if you continue. I chose this current aesthetic, stuck to a plan & have never looked back. In terms of every day life, things like life-changing decisions can't be taken lightly but if you truly believe yourself - please don't loose sight in your vision. If you can't achieve this, is there an alternative? I've learned that changes DO NOT happen overnight. Changing something smaller will have better results quicker but not always. Praise yourself for the small wins! Be patient with yourself & reward yourself. If things don't go to plan, evaluate & continue. You got this!
Tip 4: Don't cringe at your own positivity
Affirmations are sometimes deemed as nonsense, girly or a cheesy. Don't look at it like this. They're goals, motivation & reminders. If you don't have anything like this, you'll be looking at those resolutions as a burden & disgusted that you've not tackled them yet especially if they're staring you physically in the face. I post the majority of the time about #selfcaresunday. To me, this is like meditation. A time to focus on myself, reflect & unwind from every day stresses. Modern life is so consuming on our being. If something brings you tranquillity, self-confidence or noting positive attitudes like journaling, staying healthy, applying make-up or being a couch potato. Go for it. You'll thank me when you feel energetic to continue again the next day.
Bonus tip: Enjoy the journey.
We aren't perfect. No-one is. Don't compare your life to someone else's life - especially online. Don't take everything at face value; sometimes things aren't what you think it looks like. Take the take to appreciate what you love. Care for others as they might surprise you. Remember what goals you want from your own life. Be a boss!
I wish you all a happy, healthy NEW YEAR filled with lots of love and success!
Thank you so much for all the support over the past year x
