Messy Bookshelves & Book Merch

Writer's picture: Partially BookedPartially Booked

Another week of catching up with my latest obsessions..

written | Sunday 4 June 2023.

Media | Reading / Watching / Listening

  • The Morning Show | I’ve just started season two! My favourite character is Cory. To my surprise, he gets passionate about the revolution of today’s media culture. The fire between him & Bradley has me routing for them as a couple. I won’t go into anymore but I am absorbed by all the drama!

  • Call Her Daddy | After the crazyy drama of #Scandoval, I’ve been scrolling on twitter like mad. I am obsessed with the drama. It has been the best season for a LONG time. Cooper sat down with Madix in an intimate interview, unravelling all the deets about the affair. It is the ONLY interview she has participated in since with this much info.

These Are My Obsessions..

Book Merch | It's not even about the #bookstagram moments to show off the cool merch I keep coming across. I need the perfect wear to be comfortable to read..

Messy Book Shelves | As I mentioned somewhere on this page, I am stressing about how many books I am owning or reading. I usually keep the books I like but try not to buy hundreds of books unless I know I will read them. At the same time, I've seen some messy shelves this week & totally feel their vibe.

Books | Recently Added To My Wishlist

  • Shoe Dog / Phil Knight | A memoir by the creator of Nike. The story behind the $30 billion company who are famously known for their ‘swoosh’ marked all over their shoes.

  • Waiting For Ted / Marieke Bigg | Rosie makes a perfect home for her husband by cooking, cleaning whilst he is at work. She comes from a wealthy, upper-class background so fills her house with items, instagramming them when in place. Ted bans her from spending her inheritance until she’s earning. She plots her way round this, realising she is focusing on the wrong things..

  • Penance / Eliza Clark | OUT JULY 6 |A murder thriller from a decade ago. We follow the journalist through his investigative piece on what he thought happened based on interviews & historical research. How much is the town willing to believe?

  • The List / Yomi Adegoke | OUT JULY 20 | A high profile journalist for a magazine is marrying the love of her life. The drama began as a crowdsourced collection of names who would post allegations on social media. She ran this account calling for certain characters to be fired. She woke up one morning, not realising her soon-to-be-husband is on the list..

  • Lessons In Chemistry / Bonnie Garmus | In the early 1960s, Zott’s all-male research team took an unscientific view of equality. She signs on as the host of a cooking show but her creativity infused science way of cooking catches everyone’s attention.

  • The Secret Lives of Church Ladies / Deesha Philyaw | Each lady who attends church carries their secrets of new loves, forbidden affairs & secret longings. It follows ladies who have desires & pursue a momentary reprieve from being good.

Currently | Reading / Listening / Borrowing / Purchasing

Reading | This week I’m reading far too much, specifically as I don’t have the time to read. However, I was still up at 4am ordering Yellowface the day it came out. So far, this book is unbelievable! It has to be one of the best books of 2023.

Listening | I picked up a tip from @theshelfedit_ on where to find the latest audio books. I currently own a signed copy of Carrie Soto Is Back but cannot find the time to read it. I was quite hesitant to read it, for some unknown reason. Over hyped, maybe? Well, believe all of it because I'm very much enjoying it.

Borrowing | A little trip to the library in the week was more like an Instagram #bookstack haul. I ended up finding so many quick reads as I toured around a few in my area so now I need to read them - you know I’m the 300p or less gal, right? I borrowed Small Worlds, Open Water, The Disaster Tourist & Assembly. I’m not even sure that’s it.
